Our Story: Newsletter

Well hello spring! With the new season comes a lot of new practices around here. I had always thought about doing a newsletter but never wanted to bother you. Recently you’ve told me with the changes that social media platforms keep rolling out you don’t always see my posts and you’re missing out on news about mini shoot dates, See Her Story events and new blogposts. I don’t want you to miss out! You can sign up here.springblog-0005-copy1Here in North Carolina we are watching spring make it’s way into the world. We might still be experiencing a stray snow flurry here and there but you can already see the first blooms stubbornly marching forward with their annual rhythm. As many of you know, I have been in a winter season for the past couple of years but with the calendar changing to 2018 I could feel a spring season setting in. Rebecca and I sat down together in January to assess the past year, as well as vision and plan for the new year and instead of choosing a word of the year, we decided on a metaphor of the year. Y’all I LOVE a good metaphor. I need a strong symbolic visualization, something to paint the picture of whatever it is that I am processing in my heart and mind. What came to me for Story Photographers in 2018 was that this business is like a garden. I first started this garden back in 2005 with the first wedding I shot with one lens on my film camera. That was the water to the seeds that had been there for years – my love of photography, my love of people and my interest in people’s stories. Over time this garden has grown in size, we’ve planted new plants, we started using fancier tools and supplements to maintain the garden. The garden grew and grew and produced more and more. During my personal winter season the past couple of years, I was afraid for what was going to happen to the garden that is Story Photographers… the garden took a big hit and I knew that in order for me to survive personally- and ultimately for the business to grow better than ever- I had to become a different kind of gardener. I knew that I needed to use smarter tools and strategies to keep this business healthy and thriving. There has been some pruning where I never thought I would prune, and there has been delegation of tasks where I never thought I would delegate. We are planting things we’ve never planted before along side well established favorites that we continue to tend that have been the heart of the garden since day one. The spring that is setting in for us has been so sweet.springblog-0022-copy1So if you ever overhear me, Rebecca, Leah and the rest of the SP team talking about the big picture of the business plan, you might think we are talking about planting a garden. Really we are just so stinkin’ energized and excited to cultivate the new season of Story Photographers for you! One of the new plants we are planting is this newsletter. In it we hope you find information that enhances your life, points you back to your story and reminds you that your story is important and worth telling. We want to vulnerably share the story of who we are here so that we can tell your story well. We’ve got big things to share with you this year - thank you for all of the ways you’ve walked along side of us since day one!
