Business Story: Referral
When I got the following email from Michaela and Josh I was stunned. I was speechless. I was blown away that these two took the time to write this email. Wow. This email was not only filled with incredibly kind words about me, David and our business but it also showed me that people get us. They get what we are trying to do. They get how we want to do what we do. Thank you again for these words, Michaela and Josh...
"How can we thank you enough for such an amazing memory of our wedding? Now we will have this memory of our wedding, so artistically, meticulously, and perfectly documented, forever. You can really see the story unfold as we look through the pictures. You can just feel each moment as it passes. Even just with stills, we were able to relive every detail of our wedding day, and It was beautiful. We saw the moments we remembered, we saw the moments we missed. We got to see what each other were doing while we were apart- which was just so fun. Looking through the whole album is really like having the wedding day again, laughing and crying at all the same times. And we will have this forever. We just cannot thank you enough for such an amazing gift we will have for the rest of our lives. When we were originally looking for a photographer for our wedding, we started with my older sister’s photographer that she had used. They seemed fine, but impersonal and expensive. We looked around online but everyone we found was just wrong for us for one reason or another. They all had packages where we would have had to pick and choose the number of hours, the number of photographers, the number of pictures. Most weren’t going to let us even see all the pictures until 6 months to a year after the wedding. And none of them seemed at all vested in having my business. I was just another potential customer. And then one glorious day facebook came to the rescue (really, what a social phenomenon). Anna sent a message to all the people she knew were getting married. One of them, she remembered, had asked her about photographers. She couldn’t remember who it was so she just sent it to everyone. Thank goodness! As soon as I started looking at your blog, I knew you were fantastic. You had the exact style we really wanted. It was clear that you told the story, without being intrusive. It looked like you really knew the people whose events you were capturing- and you captured their lives and their personalities in a way that I felt like I knew them too. You made them come to life through the pictures. I pretty much fell in love with the photographic style and the people in the pictures too =). You HAD to be the kind of photographers I wanted. Then when Josh and I met you, Ashley, we were so right! You were so warm and welcoming. You listened to all of our concerns- the number of hours, number of photos, access to photos, capturing who we really were and what our story really was, letting us mix the posed and the candid shots. Even the whole finding a picturesque spot to do a quick mid-day wedding shoot. You completely understood all of our concerns. And you were the kind of photographers who fashioned your business around those common concerns- not limiting the number of hours or access to pictures. Understanding us as people who wanted to remember their wedding day, not just customers. Throughout the whole planning process, you were always helpful with tips on locations for our mid-day shoot, timing, etc. Then on the day of the wedding, you both were just fantastic. And the pictures prove it. You were the perfect amount of “there” and “not there.” There when we needed help- like directions, or a bobby pin, or an extra hand. There when the moments happened. Always taking note of what was going on, how the day was unfolding, and documenting it all, just as it was. Not there when it was time for us to be alone. I saw a wedding recently where the photographers AND videographers were right there under the chuppah with the family during the ceremony click click clicking away right in everyone’s face. Although if we really wanted intrusive, I’m sure you could have found a way to do that, but you knew what we actually wanted. And that is what you two do- you tell our story true to who we are and what we wanted. You didn’t spend hours taking posed portraits with instructions down to the angle of our shoes. You didn’t approach the wedding photos as a cookie-cutter project. You took the time to learn who we were and what our story was, learn what we wanted, and tailor our pictures to exactly that. And I must say, what artistic talent you really have. What pieces of art we now have in our possession. THANK YOU!!!!"
