Family Story: The Powell Family

The Powells have recently built a new house on some family land so it was very sweet to get pictures of them at home. I have known this couple all of my life. These two have a reputation for being the kindest, most generous and hardworking people you will meet.Warner and Mary have been married 64 years. When I told them to hold hands under the pecan tree, I asked Warner what his favorite thing about May is. Without hesitation, he quickly answered, "her smile." Then when I asked Mary what her favorite thing about Warner is, she said, "his sweet nature." How much do you love that? You know I love that.In my time photographing people, I have come to learn that people over age 70 often tell me, "No one photographs me anymore." I think there are a lot of reasons why that happens, and part of it is that there is a stereotype that people in this age bracket don't like to be photographed. I love that Warner and Mary's family insisted that they be photographed together.
