Family Story: Baby J's Birth Day
I have now photographed this family giving birth to their babies three times now (you can see their first baby here and their second baby here) and every time it takes my breath away at how amazing it is to give birth to a baby. Women's bodies are amazing. Babies are amazing. The support system that can build up around a woman giving birth is amazing. This is a long post but stick with it - I promise you will be glad you did. I started out capturing the labor and delivery process for this family, and then came back the next day to photograph the big kids meeting their new little brother. Some of the cutest stuff I've ever seen, people. Baby J's older brother and sister were just so smitten with him - they kept fighting over who got to hold him. So stinking cute. What you don't see in this post, however, is that about 24 hours after I took the pictures of their whole family, Baby J was emergency transferred via helicopter to UNC-CH's NICU and was diagnosed with Hirschprung's Disease. He went through a surgery almost immediately, and will go through a second in a few months. Baby J's Mommy has told me how surreal it is to look at these pictures before their life was quickly turned upside down... this calm before the storm. Baby J did very well in surgery and recovered quicker than expected afterwards - he got to go home early!
